Mahalabia is a tremendous quick, tremendous easy, Middle Eastern dessert made with milk, quite sweetened and flavoured with rose or orange water.
Very a lot like Blanc Mange, it's ultra simple to make, takes purely simply several minutes, then positioned within the fridge to cool. Consider it the Middle East’s reply to panna cotta, minus the gelatine, that's a bonus, really!
Mahalabia is discovered in lots of Middle Eastern countries, with every one claiming possession (of course); but no matter its origin, suffice it to say, when you're keen on milky puddings, you’re going to love this one!
Mahalabia Ingredients
Muhallabia, as mentioned, is well-nigh a milk dessert, however, you may “play around” with the dairy which you just use within the recipe. For example, some of us like so as to feature just a bit cream to the milk for a richer style but when you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll realize that I’m a vast fan of evaporated milk, especially in my desserts.
Which skill that our Mahalabia recipe will get the evaporated milk cure too! I use a mix of recent entire milk and evaporated milk, for an indulgent, but surprisingly, nonetheless pale dessert. I’ve made this with semi skimmed milk and semi skimmed evaporated milk with very nice effects too, when you don’t fancy all that fat!

How to serve Mahalabia
- Crushed pistachios and almonds are used as a pale topping, as you may see from the photographs and offer a nice distinction in texture and temperature. Don’t fancy nuts? Leave them out.
- Crushed rose petals are one other frequent topping but to me, those don’t truly do something in phrases of flavour, they simply offer a visible enhancement.
- Crushed hibiscus petals are tart and whereas now not traditional, make a quality flavour contrast.
- Remember I said proper on the bounce that we flavour it with the two orange flower water or rose water? I all the time lean toward rose and when you've got entry to rose syrup, that makes a nice topping too, quite diluted and drizzled over.
- If you can’t get rose syrup, assume recent berries, butterscotch, caramel (salted caramel could be good). Not standard but all the time good!
- Chocolate is all the time nice too! Whether you grate some chocolate onto the mahalebi, or spoon some chocolate ganache or chocolate sauce over it.
- And, how about some balsamic strawberries for a funky fusion garnish? The sharp, tangy and candy balsamic strawberries move ultra properly with the creamy muhallabia.
